Free Beer!
JBMC RUN TO HI-WAY ONE
The Jus' Brothers first started planning this campout
about a year ago. So I've been waitin' a year now, and
lo and behold, we're finally on the road, it's all coming
together. The weather has been less than perfect up on
the coast, with fog in the mornings and daytime highs in
the mid 60's, but the Harley gods are smiling on us today
and the weather is sweet, dare I say perfect? Yep, perfect!
I knew when we rolled up the coast this was gonna be a
great run cause the only thing we couldn't control, didn't
need control. Yep, the sun is shining and the sky is clear.
We arrived at the run site, "The End of the Trail", on
Thursday, July 31, and got everything set up and ready
for our guests to start rollin' in the next morning. This
was to be a three day campout, Friday through Sunday,
with run pins, vendors, live music, bike games, BBQ,
wet T-shirts, etc. for $20 a head. The run site belongs to
Ron and Tom, two blood brothers with the Too Much Fun
Club. Their property consists of 40+ acres on a hill over-
looking the Pacific Ocean and has hot showers, a large
stage, beer booth, privacy, and a view ya have to see in
person to appreciate. All this and situated near Fort Ross
on some damn fine ridin' roads.
Basically the run started off great, stayed great, and
ended great. Only one little problem- we had hoped for
at least twice the 200 plus riders that showed up. Oh, well
first year and all, but at least the people that came pegged
the fun meter all weekend and by that measure the run
couldn't have been more successful.
We had a pretty good crowd by Friday afternoon, and
since the tent area was a 20-acre meadow they had no
trouble finding a spot to their likin'. The vendors had food,
T-shirts, jewelery, etc. and of course a tattooist..... something
for most everyone. The JBMC had free beer. Yep, I said
"FREE beer". We did ask 'em ta keep our clubhouse building
fund donation can in mind, but that was a stricly voluntary
deal if they wished to donate. Course bikers bein' the
people they are, a lot of generosity went into the fund.
The Bourbon Street Blues Band played on Friday night
and the crowd seemed ta like them. They've played at
other JBMC functions and always do a great job. They
didn't have their sax player with 'em this time and that
kinda bummed me out, but overall they jammed pretty
damn good. I sure like a hot sax though.
Next day the sun was still glowing hot and most of the
missing guests had rolled in by late afternoon. Nobody
seemed to be getting claustrophobic in that 20-acre
meadow, and we had even hung lanterns on poles here-
n-there ta keep 'em from tripping out there in the dark.
We started gettin' sign-in's for the bike show and
games, and the all-important wet T-shirt contest. Each
sign-in package included a ballot, and the winners were
all picked by the guests. Cash prizes went to Best Dresser,
Best Custom, and the Best of Show.
Butch, our V.P. , did the T-shirt contest and started it off
with a beer chugalug to see who would wet down the girls.
Steve, from the Devil's Horsemen M/C, won that honor by
suckin' down his beer in light-speed time, and he did a fine
job of pourin' ice water on the lovely lady competitors.
Talk about competitors, Martha stole the show and copped
the $100.00 cash first place prize.
Next on the agenda was the bike games and our Sgt. at
Arms, Johnny Reb, ran that event flawlessly. The games
took awhile, and the competition was fierce, but winners
finally did emerge. Congrats to Collin Miller for first place
in the slow race, and R. Alvarado and Shelly for first in the
weinie bit.
Needless to say, all that yellin' and competin' is thirsty
work and the girls in the beer booth did a great job keepin'
everyone's throat from getting too parched. The games had
no sooner ended when the dinner-horn sounded and the
beer booth temporarily became the dinner booth. It went
smooth as can be and before ya knew it 200+ riders were
deep into a BBQ steak dinner that I must say was damn
good!
Nothin' left to do after dinner but get another cold one
and get out on the dance floor, 'cause the Fryed Brothers
Band was just startin' ta tear it up. I can't tell ya how many
times I've seen this band at different events, but I can say
they're always a crowd pleaser and tonight was no ex-
ception.
Sunday morning was pretty laid back. Nobody seemed
ta be in any big hurry to go home, and I can't blame 'em.
Maybe it's the beauty of this campsite, or possibly some
of them jus' had too much fun last night? Naw, ya can't
have too much fun, can ya?
But as it's said, all good things come to an end, and
eventually all the guests filtered out and for us the cleanup
began. I gotta say that the cleanup was no big deal since
the crowd was real good about policin' their area as they
left. Bikers really are the best people on earth.
We hated ta leave too, but back to Stockton we had to
go. Funny, I now find myself back where this all started,
with a year to wait till the next one. C-ya then.
