Blacktail "Sportster" Doe gives up life
CRAZY AL'S DEER ENCOUNTER
GOOD TO DA LAST BITE !
I'm sendin' ya some photos I took on Friday, September
24th, 1999. The JUS BROTHERS M/C was making a three-
day run from Stockton to the End of the Trail Ranch up near
Fort Ross on Highway One and we were almost to the front
gate when a Blacktail doe jumped over a wire fence and
actually landed right in my bro Crazy Al's arms. Man, I was
riding one second in front of him and seen most of it in my
mirrors. Twenty years on the saddle and I never seen anything
like this before. When the deer landed on top of him it broke
his risers and disconnected his handlebars. So picture this,
40 miles an hour, no more handlebars and a 125 lb. deer in
your lap.
Crazy Al wrestled the deer and finally dumped her off to
the side, she was dead by then and nobody knows for sure
if the impact on top of Crazy Al's bars killed her or if Al beat
her ta death before he ejected the corpse. Anyway, he showed
true class and no small amount of balls!
After dumping the ambushin' doe he grabbed hold of the
tripletrees and tried ta ride it out but ended up going down
hard. He's tough though, and only got a broke thumb, cracked
tailbone and a lot of bruises out of it.
Anyhow, the CHP arrived and told us we couldn't take the
deer with us to eat. Evidence! Funny thing was, the cop
ended up driving off with the deer still laying by the side of
the road. So of course we did what he told us to and left it
laying there. Not! Sportster doe, sure was good!
Anyhow, Crazy Al has recovered from the attack and I know
he'd get a kick outta seeing these shots in the Thunder Press.
Man, if left turners and all the other hazards we face ain't
enough, now I gotta watch out for flying deer too. Life's not
only short, it's damn weird sometimes!
